Wax-Tree-Cast are back with their second tune of the year ‘Run!’. A glittering indie-pop juggernaut which hits all the right notes.
Hailing from Halifax, West Yorkshire, Wax-Tree-Cast are making all the right moves to hit the big time this year.
With admiration coming from, none other than, Radio X’s new music aficionado John Kennedy and collaborations with Mercury Prize nominated sound engineers. It’s little wonder they’re starting to make waves.
For those who don’t know the trio, Wax-Tree-Cast consists of lead vocalist and bassist Oolagh Hodgson, James Newsome on drums and songwriter Blair Murray on lead guitar. If you think Murray’s face looks familiar you’re probably a Twisted Wheel fan. The lyrical powerhouse was a former member of the breakout Manchester band who counted the Gallagher’s as admirers.
But we’re not here to talk Twisted Wheel, we’re all about Wax-Tree-Cast and their latest tune ‘Run!‘. With bouncing indie-pop rhythms and melodic guitars creating a superb framework, the song is an absolute delight.
Over the top of those upbeat tones comes Hodgson’s lively, Amy Macdonald-esque vocal which is consummately suited to the single’s infectious disposition.
Such is the jovial nature of the track, you almost don’t realise it’s been written from the perspective of a warring couple coming to the end of their tether.
After a couple of listens it’s easy to see why Kennedy rates them so highly. Delivering quality like this with only a handful of releases under your belt it some talent.
2021 is set to be some year for the Wax-Tree-Cast trio as they have shows lined up at some pretty epic venues in the near future.
Make sure you catch them at Yes in Manchester and The Golden Lion in Tormorden over a couple of dates in October. But if your October diary is full up, they have another couple of December appearances lined up for Manchester and West Yorkshire respectively.
For now though ‘Run!‘ is available to download and stream from today. Or listen below now
