Getaways – Alright – Single Review

‘Alright’ is the debut single from Manchester’s Getaways. If you like yourself some Paramore or Pale Waves your mind will start making the right noises for this quality quartet.

‘Alright’ is the new tune by Getaways

During the scourge of COVID-enforced lockdowns, many of us were sitting in our pants binging every series and film Netflix could throw at us. While simultaneously mourning the activities we used to take for granted.

But while the rest of us were mourning our forgotten year and smashing through a family-sized box of popcorn every 48 hours, Getaways were busy turning those faded memories of bygone days into their debut single ‘Alright

Penned during the crisis and eventually belted out in a student room via online gigs (much to the chagrin of the other residents, we imagine) ‘Alright’ is a bone-shaker of an indie-rock anthem

The shuddering drum beat and jangling guitars, paired with lead-vocalist Mars’s incredible performance, is an arrangement so reminiscent of acts like Pale Waves.

Often blurring the lines of post-punk in the verses, the track rattles along at an incredible pace. But, even at that pace, we defy you to not be singing the “You said that it’s going to be Alright” line for the rest of the day after giving it a spin.

For a debut record it’s superbly written and delivered with expert cutting edge. That beat is insatiable and implores your body to move. While it was created under the most trying of backdrop’s there’s a genuine sense of hope to ‘Alright’ which is incredibly audible in the tune and super-infectious.

With a couple of energetic live performances under their belt so far, including a Below The Bridge festival slot at the Zombie Shack. Everything seems to be picking up pace for this new Manchester quartet.

Alright‘ is available to stream and download now or listen below now. And although you may not want to relive those dark days, lockdown has never sounded so good!
